Tokens and words measure different things
A prompt’s word count and token count are different measurements. Tokens can represent parts of words, punctuation, or other characters. AI Remove’s Token Count uses the TokenX estimator to give you a live planning estimate alongside words, Unicode characters, paragraphs, lines, and UTF-8 bytes.
A GPT token counter is useful when comparing drafts or deciding how much background to include in a prompt. AI Remove’s estimate is not a model-specific tokenizer result, a context-window guarantee, or a billing count. A provider may count the complete request differently from the text you paste into this tool.
Compare two versions of a prompt
- Paste your draft into Token Count. Include instructions, reference text, and examples that will be part of your message.
- Read the estimated tokens together with the word and character counts. Each statistic describes a different part of the same text.
- Save the statistics, then edit the draft to remove repeated background or unnecessary examples.
- Compare the revised count and reread the instructions. A shorter prompt still needs to preserve the facts and constraints required for your task.
Counts update as you type, with the same estimator checking the text on AI Remove’s server. If server verification is unavailable, the interface reports that status. Copy the statistics when you want a record of a comparison rather than relying on memory.
Use estimates within their limits
When a strict context limit or exact price matters, check the tokenizer and usage reporting for the model you will use. Include other parts of the request, such as conversation history, when they affect the provider’s count. This general estimator cannot promise that a pasted draft will fit every model.
Invisible characters and unusual spacing can be worth reviewing before a comparison. The Text Watermark Remover shows supported cleanup without rewriting your words. Keep the original, check what changed, then count again. Avoid removing useful structure solely to lower a number.
Keep prompt planning focused
Token Count is free to use; no account required. Submitted text is processed in memory without saving it or sending it to an external AI provider. Read the Privacy Policy for details, and use the estimate as one input when reviewing a prompt rather than as a measure of writing quality.
